Hello everyone, my name is Courtny Kelly and I am the owner of Reps & Sets. Most people will describe me as passionate, dedicated, competitive, caring, understanding, and bubbly. These are all true, especially when it comes to what I love in life. I wanted to start my own business in personal training after figuring out what works and does not work not only for myself as a trainer, but more importantly for you, as the client.

My background starts with being an athlete as a kid. I grew up in the pool, having started swimming at the age of 3. I swam competitively from ages 10 to 18 years old on both a club team and as a varsity athlete all fours years of high school. I was a good swimmer, but was never the fastest on our team. Aside from swimming I was not active in other sports or working out outside of swim. Exercising was never something I was overly confident in as I was always chunky as a kid and as a teenager (at least that was how I perceived myself).

Being the chunky girl led me down a road of low self-esteem, low self-confidence and constantly doubting if I looked thin or not. At the age of 11 I was told by a lifeguard that I was too heavy to go down a water slide, even though I looked no different than my friends. This event was a trigger for years of unhappiness with how my body looked. I never got to the point of an eating disorder, but I would try different diets in high school to lose weight, wear certain types of clothing to make me look smaller and also suck in my belly to give the appearance of being skinny. Even in college I did these things up until I discovered personal training and what it does for the mind, body, and soul. Once I graduated and passed my certification test, I got a job and started training. I worked with men and women who shared the same issue of low self-esteem and were just as nervous as I was to work out in front of people, but together we did and together we overcame those obstacles.

Fast forward to 2012 when I started doing CrossFit. A former co-worker of mine mentioned that I should try it, so I did and fell in love with it right away. I realize through this type of exercise that I had a lot more to offer in my own workouts and it changed my mind set on how I viewed myself. My confidence, my self-esteem and positiveness grew exponentially and I took that mindset in to how I trained my clients. To this day I focus on helping people overcome their mental road blocks, or inner demons, as I tend to think of them. We overcome them together, never alone, and the results are amazing.

As a trainer I have discovered all the different areas that we can specialize in, and the areas I have my main focus are in women’s health. Working with the pre-natal clientele is a very special time for the trainer and the mother to be. Pregnancies can be both easy and difficult for any given woman, but it is my job to help all future mothers to stay in shape and stay healthy during pregnancy.

I also specialize in helping women who have reached menopause and beyond. With menopause the body goes through several changes and I have found the perfect method to help alleviate those symptoms. It was the topic I used in my thesis in Graduate School, so I have made it my mission to help in any way I can.

Lastly, a new interest hits home for many people these days, Cancer, a medical condition that we are all too familiar with that affects the body in many different ways. Having the proper programming through exercise can allow any type of cancer patient to still workout even while going through treatment or in remission. My goal is to able to do that and again make that difference in their health to beat cancer.
